Oscar Piastri's damning response when asked about Lando Norris' world title push after Italian GP controversy

Piastri made it VERY clear.

Oscar Piastri appeared to make his feelings very clear when asked if McLaren needed to start favouring Lando Norris due to his championship fight with Max Verstappen.

McLaren were once again left with egg on their faces after the Italian Grand Prix, as they failed to convert Norris' pole position to a race victory which would have been crucial for his fight with Verstappen.

Norris and Piastri lined up first and second on the grid and comfortably made it through the first chicane as the leading two cars, however, the Aussie driver took matters into his own hands heading into the second chicane as he pulled off an outstanding overtake to take the lead.

While Piastri's overtake was described as the 'move of the season' by David Coulthard, it compromised Norris' exit from the corner allowing the eventual race winner Charles Leclerc to glide past the McLaren of Norris.

Following the race, both McLaren drivers were questioned by the media on whether team orders needed to be introduced to ensure Norris has the best chance at catching Verstappen.

Norris responded: "It's not up to me. I think as any driver you don't want things to play that way. I wouldn't say we're running out of time but time is going away slowly. It's not for me to decide. It's for the team."

However, when the question was put to Piastri, the 23-year-old didn't even reach for his microphone, and simply just shook his head.

Following his move on the first lap, Sky Sports commentator and former F1 driver Martin Brundle claimed the overtake demonstrated Piastri's true opinion on Norris' title charge.

'“I think we got confirmation there that Piastri has zero interest in Lando Norris’s world championship," Brundle said.

Following the race, McLaren team principal Andrea Stella revealed that McLaren would look into Piastri's move and potentially change their team rules due to the consequences.

"We will have to review together with the drivers, look at the videos, understand their point of view. And then we will assess together whether they were fully compliant or not," Stella explained after the race.

"We will take the learning if there is any learning that we need to take. And then we will adjust the Papaya Rules such that they allow us to pursue in the best possible manner both the constructors' championship and the drivers' championship."
