Oscar Piastri’s McLaren Contract Has ‘Lando Norris Clause’ Amid Singapore Drama

Oscar Piastri was left fuming during the Singapore Grand Prix.

Oscar Piastri reportedly has a 'Lando Norris clause' inserted in his McLaren contract amid the pair's Formula 1 title fight.

With just six races left of the 2025 F1 season, the fight to become world champion is heating up.

Currently, Piastri leads Norris, with Max Verstappen in with an outside chance of defending his title.

During last weekend's Singapore Grand Prix, Piastri and Norris went wheel-to-wheel during the first lap, with the Brit managing to get ahead of his teammate.

However, Piastri was fuming as he felt Norris overtook him unfairly.

In the end, Norris finished in third place, ahead of Piastri in fourth.

As a result, the gap between the pair now stands at 22 points.

Over the course of the season, many questions have been raised over the way McLaren have handled the title fight.

However, it has previously been claimed that Piastri has a clause in his McLaren contract that 'protects' him from Norris.

1997 world champion Jacques Villeneuve claimed that a clause in the 24-year-old's deal forbids McLaren from giving priority in a race to Norris.

He said earlier in the year: "They cannot give Lando priority over Oscar because of the contract. He has a contract that protects him.

"As long as both drivers can win the championship, there won't be team orders unless there's something significantly big for the constructors' title or if one of them is having an issue in a race like last year."

Back in March 2025, the Daily Mail claimed that Piastri had penned a new deal that is worth a staggering £20 million per season, with the arrangement set to last 'until the end of the decade'.

His previous deal is understood to have netted him around £16.9 million per season, with his new contract said to contain so-called 'accumulator clauses', putting him in line to receive significant bonus payments in the event of success on the track.

Speaking after the incident with Norris in Singapore, the Australian said: "The main thing is the two cars coming together. It's never what we want, so I'll go and have a look at it in more detail."

The 2025 F1 season will continue next weekend with the United States Grand Prix, taking place around the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas.
