Mick Schumacher gives rare insight into father Michael after life-changing accident

Michael Schumacher suffered a horror ski crash back in 2013.

Formula 1 legend Michael Schumacher's son, Mick, has given fans an insight into his father, more 10 years after the horror ski accident.

Back in December 2013, Schumacher suffered life-changing injuries after an accident in the French Alps.

The German was airlifted to hospital in Grenoble, where he was placed in a medically induced coma until June 2014.

Since then, very little details have been made public as the Schumacher family chose to keep his condition private.

Former FIA president and Ferrari team boss Jean Todt said last year: "Michael is here, so I don't miss him. [But he] is simply not the Michael he used to be. He is different, and is wonderfully guided by his wife and children who protect him.

"His life is different now and I have the privilege of sharing moments with him. That's all there is to say. Unfortunately, fate struck him ten years ago. He is no longer the Michael we knew in Formula 1."

Now, Michael's son, Mick, who is currently the reserve driver for Mercedes, spoke to Matt Whyman for his new all-access book titled 'Inside Mercedes F1'.

Mick spoke about his relationship with his father when he was younger and has also picked out what he's learnt from the F1 legend.

As reported by Yahoo!, the 25-year-old said: "I was a crazy kid – everything my dad did, I did.

"He was really supportive and a lot of fun, but could also be challenging. One time in a karting race I braked very late going into a corner and gained a lot of time. When I told him about it, he said, 'Yes, but you should have braked like that in every corner!'"

Mick added: "I started racing in the Formula classes the year after (the accident) and from that point onwards, I had to find my own feet.

"But I definitely learned a lot of technical points from him that I still use today, as well as from his coaching. And I have always been very resilient."

Mick last raced in F1 for the Haas team but was replaced after a serious of crashes. There were reports linking him with a return to the grid for 2025 but for now, it looks like he will have to wait. a bit longer for a return to the sport.
