Lewis Hamilton in 'concrete talks' to buy Red Bull-linked team using his £300m net worth

Lewis Hamilton in 'concrete talks' to buy Red Bull-linked team using his £300m net worth

Could Lewis Hamilton be buying a team of his own?

Seven-time Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton is reportedly in talks to buy a Red Bull-linked team.

The 2024 season was one to forget for Hamilton as he finished in a disappointing seventh place in the F1 driver's standings, a huge 214 points adrift of winner Max Verstappen.

Looking ahead, 2025 is set to be a season of change for the Brit as he waved goodbye to Mercedes ahead of his high-profile move to Ferrari.

First confirmed back in February, Hamilton is set to partner Monegasque star Charles Leclerc in the Ferrari red from 2025 onwards.

With F1 not returning until February 2025 at the earliest, Hamilton has been linked with buying a Red Bull-linked MotoGP team.

As reported by The Mirror, Hamilton has held 'concrete discussions' over investing in the KTM MotoGP team.

Having competed in MotoGP since 2017, KTM's parent company are said to be encountering financial difficulties and 'could be forced to sell off or even close its motorsport arm as part of a self-administration process'.

KTM have been sponsored by the likes of Red Bull and Mobil 1 over the years but now find themselves in a tricky situation.

With a net worth of over £300 million, as listed by the Sunday Times Rich List, Hamilton could be the perfect investor to save the team.

Speaking to Speed Week, KTM motorsport director Pit Beirer said of Hamilton's potential investment: "All I can say is that we have had very interesting discussions with his management.

"It is no secret that Lewis Hamilton is interested in MotoGP and is thinking about having his own team. There are concrete discussions here too. The current situation is making us creative and open to new discussions. So we are not only open to sponsors, as has been the case so far, but also to investors."

The 2025 F1 season will begin in March with the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne.
