Why Nico Rosberg has 'banned' Lewis Hamilton from entering his house amid claims of 'painful topic'

Why Nico Rosberg has 'banned' Lewis Hamilton from entering his house amid claims of 'painful topic'

Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton were teammates at Mercedes.

The reason why Nico Rosberg has 'banned' Lewis Hamilton from entering his house has been revealed.

Rosberg and Hamilton were childhood friends and ended up racing for the same team when the Brit moved to Mercedes in 2013.

However, their friendship turned sour during a tense battle for the Formula 1 world title back in 2016.

The pair had multiple accidents and flash points before the German beat Hamilton to the title.

On the back of winning his first title, Rosberg announced an immediate retirement from F1.

Despite no longer racing each other, their friendship has not been rekindled in public.

During a recent appearance on the NDR Talkshow in Germany, Rosberg was asked to speak about Hamilton.

The presenter asked: "The other weak point is probably a painful topic for you. Both your daughters are Lewis Hamilton fans?"

To which Rosberg replied: "That’s true too. That’s even more than a weak point. That’s a big problem."

Rosberg's wife, Vivian, then revealed that Hamilton still brings gifts for her daughters on an annual basis around Christmas time.

She said: "Yes, he always gives them Barbies for Christmas."

Rosberg then added: "No, that’s great. That’s nice of him. We kind of had an enmity. Now both children have a huge box of presents from him on their doorstep every Christmas. It’s a nice approach."

The 2016 F1 world champion then joked that Hamilton is not allowed in the house.

He said: "He has to stay outside the door. But he’s welcome to leave the presents."

Previously speaking about his relationship with Hamilton, Rosberg said to Eurosport, as reported by The Express: "When you're fighting for success in every race and for titles, it doesn't work anymore.

"It was a build-up from one race to the next. If you want to decide the world championship for yourself, you can't play ‘love, peace and harmony’. You have to test limits and go into grey areas to win, especially when two drivers are at such a high level. Then it often gets tight."
