The ‘secret reason’ behind Lewis Hamilton’s potential move to Ferrari has been revealed.
After years of dominance at the top of the sport, Hamilton and Mercedes have struggled to keep up with the likes of Max Verstappen and Red Bull in recent years.
Dutchman Verstappen has won three Formula 1 world titles in a row whilst Hamilton is yet to win a race since 2021.
On Thursday morning, it was reported that seven-time world champion Hamilton is set to leave Mercedes for Ferrari ahead of the 2025 season.

However, it has also been reported that Hamilton could even drive for Ferrari this season.
A report from Gazetta Dello Sport in Italy states: “Lewis Hamilton to Ferrari. The prediction from Corriere della Sera has been confirmed: The seven-time world champion would arrive in Maranello in 2025, but it is not excluded that the coup could be brought forward even by a season. The official announcement could also arrive today.”
With the world of F1 wondering what made Hamilton think about leaving Mercedes after 11 years, it has been speculated that the chance of working with Ferrari team boss Fred Vasseur could be a factor.

F1 journalist Will Buxton wrote on social media: “There would be something pretty lovely about Lewis linking back up with Fred at Ferrari. He was responsible for creating the potency of the young sensation who shocked the establishment 20 years ago. One last dance to make history together would be poetic and really very special.”
Aside from Vasseur, Hamilton is believed to be close to John Elkann, Ferrari’s president.
According to The Athletic, signing Hamilton is something that Elkann has long coveted as securing the sport’s biggest star will be a major statement for the team.
The pair met several years ago at a Google event in Italy and in November, Hamilton said of Elkann: “That’s when our friendship started, and we’ve always remained in touch.”
