Lando Norris' immediate reaction spoke volumes about the McLaren driver after he crashed into the back of team-mate Oscar Piastri during the Canadian Grand Prix.

Norris was attempting to overtake his team-mate for fourth place on lap 66 when he ran out of room on the left side of the track.

His McLaren went on to the grass before he struck the left rear tyre of Piastri's McLaren, shredding his own front wing and causing significant suspension damage.

The incident caused him to retire from the race, while Piastri continued and crossed the line in fourth place.

But Norris was quick to clarify who he believed to be at fault.

When race engineer Will Joseph checked that the Brit was fine, he replied: "Yeah, I'm sorry. It's all my bad. All my fault. Sorry. Stupid from me."

The incident means that Norris has dropped 12 points to Piastri in the race for the Drivers' Championship, having been 10 points behind him heading into the weekend.

The crash drew parallels to a similar incident between McLaren team-mates Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton at the same circuit in 2011, when Hamilton put a wheel into the grass in wet conditions and hit his team-mate, causing his own retirement.
