F1 fans accuse Sky Sports of 'killing' Lando Norris' win with 'disgusting' Donald Trump commentary

F1 fans accuse Sky Sports of 'killing' Lando Norris' win with 'disgusting' Donald Trump commentary

F1 fans have hit out at Sky Sports' commentary during Lando Norris' win at the Miami Grand Prix.

Formula 1 fans have accused Sky Sports of 'killing' Lando Norris' maiden win following a 'disgusting' piece of commentary.

McLaren's Norris beat Red Bull's Max Verstappen with help from the safety car to record his first F1 win at the Miami Grand Prix.

After the race, Norris met former United States of America president Donald Trump, who met with McLaren CEO Zak Brown and inspected the team's cars in their garage.

Sky Sports commentator David Croft referenced Trump in Norris' first-ever F1 win, which has been slammed by people on social media.

As the 24-year-old crossed the finish line, Croft exclaimed: "Norris trumps Verstappen."

His decision to mention Trump in what was a clear nod to the 77-year-old, who is currently in court battling 34 felony charges in New York, all of which he denies, did not go down well among F1 fans online.

One X user wrote: "Painful. Totally killed the moment."

A second tweeted: "Commentary reaches new low."

A third fumed: "Disgusting piece of commentary, totally ruined the moment..."

A fourth slammed: "Awful commentary choice."

Another said: "Did he just say what i think he just said?"

McLaren's decision to have Trump visit their garage has been widely condemned by fans and critics.

But they have defended having him as a guest at the Miami Grand Prix.

A McLaren spokesperson said: "McLaren is a non-political organisation however we recognise and respect the office of President of the United States so when the request was made to visit our garage on race day we accepted alongside the president of the FIA and the CEO’s of Liberty Media and Formula 1.

"We were honoured that McLaren Racing was chosen as the representative of F1 which gave us the opportunity to showcase the world-class engineering that we bring to motorsport."
