Lewis Hamilton aims ruthless dig at Max Verstappen and his Red Bull team after clash at Hungarian Grand Prix

Lewis Hamilton aims ruthless dig at Max Verstappen and his Red Bull team after clash at Hungarian Grand Prix

The pair collided as Verstappen tried to overtake Hamilton into turn one for third place.

Lewis Hamilton produced a 'mic drop moment' after Max Verstappen said he was to blame for their late-race collision during the Hungarian Grand Prix.

Verstappen had a race to forget at the Hungaroring in Budapest. Firstly, he fell behind eventual runner-up Lando Norris on lap one after running wide when he attempted an overtake.

The 26-year-old, who started behind McLaren's Oscar Piastri and pole-sitter Norris, attempted to claim P2 but was forced to give the position back to his rival – something he was far from happy about.

After Verstappen's race engineer Gianpiero Lambiase suggested he sit back to avoid the risk of further punishment, the Red Bull driver delivered an x-rated radio message to his team.

Later on in the race, Verstappen was involved in another incident when he collided with Lewis Hamilton as he tried to overtake into turn one for third place.

The impact sent the Red Bull car off track, but Verstappen was able to continue and he finished in fifth place. Hamilton, meanwhile, took the final podium spot in third.

After the race, Verstappen said Hamilton was at fault but the Brit denied acting with hostility towards his rival and the Red Bull team.

In fact, he aimed a not-so-subtle dig as he opened up about the incident alongside Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris, who couldn't help but laugh at the comments.

Hamilton said: “We passed a backmarker, I got to the braking zone and then Max appeared to overtake the car behind me, so I moved over to defend. I left enough room in the inside, but Max locked up.

“He was going a different trajectory to me. I was going towards the corner and he came shooting across. It felt like a racing incident."

He added: “It’s easy to make mistakes like that. So I don’t feel there should be any hostility. But of course, from his side, there always will be.”

Here's how fans on social media reacted to Hamilton's comments.

One said: "'I don’t feel like there should be any hostility but from his side there always will be.' Lewis Hamilton I love you," while another commented: "Max they are all LAUGHING at you."

A third wrote: "The look to Lando and the way he said mic drop. His giggle."

A fourth said: "Handled with class. Good for you Lewis," while a fifth added: "He’s a classic. Can’t beat his elegant way of putting things in perspective. Sir Lewis Hamilton."

After Sunday's race in Hungary, the FIA stewards determined that the collision between Hamilton and Verstappen was a racing incident, meaning the latter was not punished after being called to the stewards post-race.
