Luke Littler is now able to do something that every other PDC player can in first tournament since turning 18

Luke Littler is now able to do something that every other PDC player can in first tournament since turning 18

Littler celebrated his 18th birthday on Tuesday.

Darts world champion Luke Litter is finally allowed to do something every other PDC player is already able to now that he has turned 18.

Earlier this month, Littler went one better than last year by claiming the Sid Waddell trophy at Alexandra Palace, beating Michael van Gerwen in the final.

Of course, being only 17 at the time of victory, he was not able to toast his success with an alcoholic beverage legally.

Now that he’s turned 18, the Darts world champion is able to enjoy a well-earned alcoholic drink upon his victories.

Moreover, Littler can also finally legally buy darts from a shop. The UK law prohibits the sale of darts to individuals under the age of 18 due to their potential use as weapons, similar to knives and other bladed articles.

Retailers face being hit with an £80 fine and could even be given penalties of up to £5,000 should they sell darts to minors.

Littler disclosed that his birthday celebrations were set to be rather subdued due to the demands of the darts calendar.

In an interview with the PA news agency, Littler said: "I haven't got anything planned really because there is a lot of darts around this time.

"I will probably just do something at home before the crazy schedule starts. But I gave myself the best early birthday present by winning the Worlds.

"My first year has been difficult, at the start of the year with the Premier League and travelling to the European Tours, I have been travelling up and down the country. It's at the start of the year when the crazy schedule is."

This weekend Littler will takes on Van Gerwen at the Dutch Darts Masters in a rematch of the World Darts Championship final.

"Of course. That's the best match, let's be honest," said Van Gerwen during a post-game press conference.

"I think it's good for the tournament as well. Everyone who knows me knows I handle those things very well.

"It happened. It's a shame, but you can't compare the World Championship with other tournaments."
