This week, Manchester City announced an extension to Rodri’s contract, taking the midfielder through to at least the summer of 2027.
The Spaniard has been with the club for three seasons now, playing a pivotal role in their success and delivering one of the three goals to ultimately crown Manchester City champions on the final day of the last campaign.
Over the last few seasons, Rodri has received more game time which has helped him turn into an elite figure in Manchester City’s defensive plan.

The former Atletico Madrid man has made a total of 151 appearances for the club to date, starting in a staggering 134 of those appearances.
One of the benefits of this playing time has been improvements in his play, which is something that Rodri has noticed personally.
When discussing what he believes has led to those improvements, Rodri has explained in a new interview with the official Manchester City website that hard work and the club's dedication are amongst the top factors.

“Everyday hard-work, ambition, these kinds of things from the top part of the club they teach us."
When discussing his extension, Rodri said that it was an easy decision to make due to his relationship with the club.
“I think they’re kind of my family or my second family, I feel that every day that I play in the Etihad.
"It was an easy renewal with me, there were no doubts about trying to continue my steps here in the Etihad.”

With Rodri’s extension taking him through to 2027 at the earliest, further developing his ability will be a big part moving forward, which he himself understands.
“I think I have a lot of gap to improve, I am the kind of player that I want to be always better and better.
"If I can show the level that I showed the last three years with 24, 25, and 26, I can do it even better.”
The Spanish midfielder's statistics have improved since joining Manchester City, finding himself in the top 20 in the Premier League for tackles won in two of his three seasons in England.

As discussed, Rodri helped bring home the Premier League trophy to the Etihad Stadium with his late-in-the-game heroics against Aston Villa.
Yet, another big moment in which Rodri delivered was against Liverpool earlier in the campaign, when he made a crucial block on Fabinho’s shot in the 86th minute, which enabled City to draw to secure a draw with their title rivals.
