Manchester City officials have launched an official contract proposal to Riyad Mahrez, according to a new report.
The latest update on the future of the Algerian international comes amid continued uncertainty over his next steps in the game.
Mahrez is currently set to enter the final 12 months of his Manchester City contract, and with the forward line seemingly undergoing a major overhaul this summer, some have wondered whether he would continue to retain his place in the North-West of England.

Unsurprisingly, given the last season he had in Sky Blue, Riyad Mahrez is unlikely to be short of potential suitors this summer, should he wish his to move on in his career.
However, multiple factors concerning the 31 year-old have led to any Manchester City supporters expecting the player to lean towards remaining at the club beyond the end of the 2022/23 season.
New developments this week from France have also indicated that this is the case, and not only the case from the part of the player.

According to the information of journalist Santi Aouna at Footmercato, negotiations regarding a potential contract extension for Riyad Mahrez at Manchester City have 'recently advanced'.
It is explained that City manager Pep Guardiola 'absolutely does not want to part with' Riyad Mahrez, such is the importance of the forward to his current and future plans.
Regarding the specific details of recent talks, Aouna reports that Manchester City have offered the player a short-term extension to his current deal - which is set to expire in the summer of 2023.

While there has been talk of Manchester City offering the player a one-year extension to his deal, Aouna quashed such suggestions on social media in a response to tweets relating to his report.
The report states that Manchester City and Riyad Mahrez still need to find common ground on some terms, but there is 'optimism' from the part of the club that an agreement will be reached.
Mahrez had a remarkable season across all competitions during the last campaign.

Across a total of 47 appearances for Manchester City, Riyad Mahrez registered a club-high 24 goals and added to that with a further nine assists.
Those performances have subsequently led to the player commanding interest from across Europe.
The likes of Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain and La Liga champions Real Madrid have both been credited with admiration for the player, but nothing more.

With Gabriel Jesus heading for Arsenal this summer, and Raheem Sterling seemingly edging closer towards a move to Chelsea, Riyad Mahrez's role in the City squad for the upcoming season could be greater than ever before.
