Manchester City will begin their 2022/23 Carabao Cup pursuit on Wednesday night against Chelsea at the Etihad Stadium in the third round of the competition.

The Premier League champions come into the clash on a relatively strong run of form, and certainly high on confidence after a dramatic afternoon of top-flight action last Saturday.

Following a Julian Alvarez opener against Fulham at the weekend, Joao Cancelo was sent off for a last-man challenge enabling Marco Silva's side to draw the game level.

From then on, over 60 minutes of the game proved to be a stern test of Manchester City's abilities with just ten-men on the field, however it was largely the efforts of four men that proved to be game-changing.

Rodri showed his immense capability to operate as both a defensive midfielder in possession, and left-sided central defender out of possession.

Elsewhere, it was Bernardo Silva and Kevin De Bruyne that proved to be the engine room in midfield, covering significant mileage across the mark to largely make up for Fulham's one-man advantage.

But it was Erling Haaland once again who changed the scoreline, with his 94th minute penalty securing all three points for Manchester City.

As for tonight's visitors Chelsea, they come into the game off the back of a 0-1 defeat against Arsenal at the weekend.

Injuries also continue to hamper Graham Potter's squad, with as many as eight first-team players either ruled out or doubtful for tonight's tie.

Full injury and fitness news from both teams can be found HERE.

Tonight's Carabao Cup clash is City's penultimate match before the 2022 FIFA World Cup, with their final game coming on Saturday afternoon in a lunchtime kick-off against Brentford at the Etihad Stadium.

The clash with Graham Potter's side could provide Manchester City with another opportunity to rest and rotate players ahead of the final top-flight clash before the international break.

Joao Cancelo is suspended following his red card at the weekend, while Kyle Walker is the only player ruled out through injury as he continues to recover from groin surgery.

Ahead of kick-off in the Carabao Cup third round, here is how both Manchester City and Chelsea line-up!
