Pep Guardiola is highly regarding as one of the all-time greatest managers. His genius has masterminded massive success in three different countries and brought joy to the faces of supporters from all over the globe.

However, in his very humble tone, the Catalan has always maintained it would not be possible without the support and guidance of his backroom staff.

Upon arrival at Manchester City, Pep Guardiola took blossoming coach and ex-footballer Mikel Arteta under his wing as assistant coach. After three years working side-by-side, the Spaniard was spotted by Arsenal and he has now been the man in charge at the Emirates for over two years - making steady progression year-on-year.

Despite his departure disappointing the Manchester City fans, the club quickly replaced him with Juanma Lillo in 2020 - a long time friend of Pep Guardiola. Since his arrival in England, the Blues have won two Premier League titles and one Carabao Cup.

However, as announced today, Juanma Lillo has left the club to take up a managerial role at Al-Sadd Sports Club.

Speaking in the wake of the announcement, the 56-year-old said: "My time at Manchester City has been one of the most enjoyable periods of my career.

“To work alongside Pep, his backroom staff and this group of players has been a pleasure and I hope to have contributed in a small way to the fantastic success we have enjoyed on the pitch. I wish the club the very best and hope they can achieve all of their ambitions moving forwards.”

Txiki Begiristain, the club's Director of Football has also left a touching tribute to Juanma Lillo, saying: “Juanma has been an integral part of a team that has won back-to-back Premier League titles. His dedication, passion and desire to improve our squad have been evident from our results on the pitch throughout his time at the club.

“It has been a pleasure working with Juanma over the last two seasons and everybody at Manchester City wishes him well in his new venture.”

Although there is no word on whether Pep Guardiola is on the hunt for a new assistant manager, it is likely he will want to get that sorted before Manchester City jet off to the United States on their pre-season tour.
