Earlier today, Manchester City were linked with Anderlecht left-back, Sergio Gomez, after negotiations to sign Brighton's Marc Cucurella have seemingly collapsed.
The Spaniard was keen to link-up with Pep Guardiola at the Etihad Stadium, but negotiations between the two sides on a transfer fee has been understandably tough.
Cucurella is Brighton's Player of the Year and arguably their most valuable asset - hence they have slapped down a £50 million price tag.

City are only willing to pay £40 million and there has been a back and forth for weeks regarding a fee.
That was until last week, when Brighton told City to meet their valuation or walk away - with the latter looking like the Blues' decision.
Now, it looks like Chelsea have swooped in and secured his signature. Thomas Tuchel's side have already made a number of high-profile signings this summer, but were keen to add left-back cover for England international, Ben Chilwell.

City have now moved onto other targets, with Benfica's Alex Grimaldo and VfB Stuttgart's Borna Sosa two of the multiple names muted.
However, links with Anderlecht's Sergio Gomez emerged earlier this morning.
The report detailed that City and the Belgian giants are 'in negotiations' regarding Gomez, but it 'remains to be seen' whether a move will materialise.
Further details from David Ornstein of the Athletic has revealed the two club's are indeed, in talks, but any transfer is seen as a high-development talent.

That means he would likely go into the City Football Group system and their interest is irrespective of any other targets for the left-back area at first team level.
Ornstein also says City remain in the market for a senior recruit and are currently assessing their options, after walking away from a deal for Cucurella.
Previously, Guardiola has stated he is fine with his current options at left-back.

Joao Cancelo was voted in that position in the 2021/22 PFA Team of the Season, but behind him in the pecking order is a series of youth talents.
Oleksandr Zinchenko completed a £30 million switch to Arsenal earlier this month in search of more game-time, meaning Josh Wilson-Esbrand is likely seen as number two.
However, Nathan Aké and Aymeric Laporte have deputised at left-back for Guardiola in the past and can be utilised their if needed.
In a Guardiola team, the left-back should have the ability to bomb forward and contribute in attacking areas.

Gomez's 15 assists in all competitions last season would suggest he is the perfect back-up candidate, but this particular report believes this isn't the case.
