One of the underrated success stories from Manchester City’s 2021/22 season was undoubtedly the rise of Cole Palmer.
While the Wythenshawe-born talent was eventually struck by injury - which marred what was set to be an outstanding campaign - it is worth noting that the 20-year-old grabbed his limited opportunities with both hands and scored his first goals in the Champions League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup.
Aside from this, it is clear to see how highly Pep Guardiola rates the gifted attacker as he entrusted the starlet enough to hand him starts in the Premier League against Everton and in the FA Cup against West Ham as a false nine.

Despite rumours of City eyeing a move for Arsenal and England international Bukayo Saka, new details have emerged which reveal that the club’s investment is solely focused on their very own right-winger that is destined for the top.
According to a report by Simon Bajkowski of the Manchester Evening News, Palmer is ‘expected’ to have a ‘bigger role’ in the City first-team in the 2022/23 season - in a bid to accelerate his development as a permanent member of the senior team.
Further details suggest that the ‘Phil Foden route’ to first-team football is planned for the tricky winger, as he will work closely with Pep Guardiola, the senior side and will not be allowed to go out on loan in the summer.

It has also been mentioned that the academy graduate’s sparkling displays last season have ‘surprised’ as well as ‘convinced’ the decision-makers at City that he is set for a bright future in Manchester.
With City tying down Palmer to a long-term contract until the summer of 2026, it is clear that the club consider him as a key part of their future for years to come.
