Julian Alvarez bid an emotional farewell to his family in Argentina before boarding a flight to Manchester on Friday afternoon.
Manchester City have officially confirmed the signing of the 22-year-old ahead of their pre-season tour to the United States in the coming weeks.
Pep Guardiola and his side will also face Liverpool in the Community Shield later this month at the King Power Stadium, which could see Alvarez and fellow new signing Erling Haaland make his competitive debut for the Premier League champions.

City announced they had signed Alvarez from River Plate on the final day of the January transfer window on a five-and-a-half-year deal.
The Argentina international was subsequently loaned back to his boyhood club for the second half of last season, with the forward impressing with some impressive strikes ahead of his move to the Etihad Stadium.
Pep Guardiola could decide to operate Alvarez across the frontline, with Gabriel Jesus having departed Manchester City for Arsenal and Raheem Sterling edging close to joining Chelsea.

The Argentine will be unveiled to Manchester City fans at a special presentation event on Sunday - alongside Erling Haaland, Stefan Ortega and Kalvin Phillips.

Pep Guardiola has spoken highly of Julian Alvarez since his move was first confirmed in January and the latter is as excited to work with the Catalan, if not more.

Alvarez added: "He (Guardiola) welcomed me to the club. I'm glad to be part of the Manchester City project.
"He is one of the best coaches in the world and has been incredibly successful.
"I want to do a good job for him, continue growing as a footballer and person. I've played in different positions, but I'd say I know how to find space in attack, and I'm a good finisher.
