Manchester City have officially confirmed the signing of the 22-year-old ahead of their pre-season tour to the United States in the coming weeks.

Pep Guardiola and his side will also face Liverpool in the Community Shield later this month at the King Power Stadium, which could see Alvarez and fellow new signing Erling Haaland make his competitive debut for the Premier League champions.

Pep Guardiola could decide to operate Alvarez across the frontline, with Gabriel Jesus having departed Manchester City for Arsenal and Raheem Sterling edging close to joining Chelsea.

"I want to do a good job for him, continue growing as a footballer and person. I've played in different positions, but I'd say I know how to find space in attack, and I'm a good finisher.

"I feel comfortable playing either role, outside or inside, but being inside I've scored more, obviously because of the distance to goal."
