Manchester City 'favourites' to sign Bundesliga star alongside Chelsea in 2023

Premier League champions Manchester City are one of two 'favourites' to sign Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund next year.

One player who has constantly been linked with a move to the Etihad Stadium is Borussia Dortmund's Jude Bellingham.

While there is no questioning that the England international is a rare talent in the game, it is worth asking which midfielder he could replace at Manchester City, in case a potential move gets over the line.

Ultimately, it is next to impossible to answer that question, considering the Sky Blues arguably have the best midfield in Europe.

However, it could be said that the only two midfielders who the Borussia Dortmund talisman could potentially replace at the club are Bernardo Silva and Ilkay Gundogan, whose futures remain uncertain currently.

In the case of the former, he seemed destined for a switch to Barcelona, with Xavi seemingly keen on bringing him in to accelerate his project at the club.

However, Pep Guardiola’s side decided not to part ways with the midfield maestro, as it was too late in the window for the club to bring in a suitable successor.

As for Gundogan, there has been speculation about Guardiola still being a huge admirer of his first-ever signing at Manchester City, and the club are keen on handing him a contract renewal.

But the decision lies in the hands of the Germany international, with there being no indication about his final decision yet.

In case either leave, a majority of Manchester City supporters would be proponents of a move for Jude Bellingham.

However, a new revelation suggests that a domestic rival will offer Manchester City stiff competition in their pursuit for the youngster’s signature.

As per a report by German outlet BILD, as translated and relayed by Sport Witness, Manchester City and Chelsea are believed to be the two favourites to land the sought-after midfielder next summer, whilst also having the financial muscle to complete the mega-transfer.

It is mentioned that the Sky Blues have an inherent advantage on their side in their chase to sign Jude Bellingham, considering the presence of his former teammate and close friend, Erling Haaland within their ranks.

Chelsea are understood to eye the former Birmingham City hero as the player to lead their new era under Graham Potter, and could offer the 19-year old a wage packet he has never taken home previously.

Ultimately, it has been stated that regardless of which club Bellingham chooses as his next destination, it is all but confirmed that the ongoing campaign is his last season for Dortmund as he is interested in joining an elite club in the summer.

If either Bernardo Silva or Ilkay Gundogan depart the Etihad Stadium next season, there is no reason to believe why Manchester City cannot win the race to sign Jude Bellingham.

Bernardo Silva had a heart to heart with #ManCity near the end of the summer and vowed to give his all for as long as he stays. From a lifestyle point of view, he would like a move to Spain, although he admits in football terms he is at the best place possible.
