Ilkay Gundogan continues to be left in limbo by Manchester City regarding his future, according to a report.
The 31 year-old central midfielder has been at the Etihad Stadium since the summer of 2016.
Becoming one of Pep Guardiola's first signings as Manchester City manager, Ilkay Gundogan has played an integral role in the implementation of the Catalan boss' successful style of play.

Despite age not being on his side, his importance to the present day City squad could not be any greater.
The former Borussia Dortmund star cemented his place in Manchester City club history with his final day antics last season, to secure the side a fourth Premier League title in the last five years.
Gundogan's late brace of goals against Aston Villa ensured Manchester City came from two goals behind to win 3-2 on a dramatic afternoon in the North-West.

But despite his integral role to the current squad, and the relatively low amount of options at Pep Guardiola's disposal in central midfield, a new update would suggest that the player remains in limbo when it comes to knowing where he will be playing his football from next season.
According to the information of Martin Blackburn at The Sun, no decision has yet been made over the future of Ilkay Gundogan.
It is worth reminding that the Germany international and current Etihad captain is into the final year of his Manchester City contract.

As such, he would be free to leave the club at the end of the ongoing season, should no extension be signed between the respective parties.
Away from his playing career, Ilkay Gundogan has already been preparing for retirement.
Speaking earlier this year, Gundogan explained his ongoing role in coaching within Manchester City's youth academy set-up, but insisted that there are no 'concrete' plans to enter the world of football management yet.

"There are no concrete plans (for coaching) right now," Gundogan said.
"I started at the beginning of last season, May or June, with the German FA.
"The reason I wanted to do it is I’m 31, hopefully I’ve got some more years ahead of me, and I want to be ahead of things."
He continued, "This is an area I’ve always wanted to explore especially having the privilege of working with Pep (Guardiola), (Thomas) Tuchel and (Jurgen) Klopp.

"I wanted to learn stuff with the German FA and Academy U16s. I’m the owner of the B licence, then I’ll go for A and pro licence."
