Since Erling Haaland was officially announced as a Manchester City player, he has dominated all the headlines.
With the Norwegian’s blockbuster start to life at Manchester City, the hype around his name is not set to die down anytime soon.
As a result, one name who has slipped under the radar is none other than Julian Alvarez.

While the 22-year-old had generated a palpable buzz amongst the Sky Blues fans after he was signed, playing a bit-part role so far this season has meant he has somewhat blended into the background.
Making cameo appearances against the likes of West Ham and Bournemouth, the Argentine has spent little to no time on the pitch, which has made it impossible for him to make an impression.
However, the former River Plate forward turned heads with his latest appearance off the bench against Crystal Palace, as he played a key role in Manchester City’s comeback victory.
Operating as a left winger, the versatile attacker’s impressive technical ability, link-up play and energy seemingly inspired the rest of his teammates to go for the kill against Patrick Vieira’s men last Saturday.

Ahead of the Premier League champions’ upcoming encounter against Nottingham Forest, Pep Guardiola was quizzed about whether Alvarez could be potentially in for a start soon.
“When Erling (Haaland) doesn't play, we play Julian. Almost sure.
"We are all really impressed for his pace, sense of goal, his work ethic, for many things,” he revealed.
The former Bayern Munich boss was also asked whether he has been surprised by how promising the youngster has looked instantly.

“How good he is. I know him a little from TV for River Plate. Surprised at how good he is.”
Pep Guardiola was also questioned about whether he believes the Copa America champion can become an elite player one day.
“Definitely. So humble and positive.
"Every session, leaves everything. Impact in pre-season, now plays minutes.

"Involved in two goals the last game, always the sense to be involved in the right areas. When he drops, he has the quality to play. Everyone is talking about Erling, but he is exceptional," he commented.
Pep Guardiola was further asked about the impact of Ilkay Gundogan as a second-half substitute in City’s incredible victory.
“Many years together, impact is always position. Especially this season, he's started really well. Last game had niggles in his leg, we didn't take risks. He could have played. So important for goals and assists.”

With the Manchester City boss clearly chuffed with both Alvarez and Gundogan, the pair could be handed key roles to play in their side’s bid to win on multiple fronts this season.
