A new report has revealed the chances of Erling Haaland having a release clause in his Manchester City contract following his arrival from Borussia Dortmund this summer.
In the beginning of the battle for the forward's signature between Manchester City and Real Madrid, it was heavily speculated that one of the most sought-after strikers in world football at the time was fancying the opportunity of playing in the La Liga next season.
However, City pipped not just the Spanish champions but other competitors for his signature - such as Barcelona and Bayern Munich - by pitching the best possible project that ultimately tipped the dream move in their scales.
Despite the Norway international expressing his burning desire to represent the club he supported as a child, play in front of the Manchester City fans and his love for the Etihad Stadium, the rumours have been rife about a potential release clause entered into Haaland's contract, which is set to run till 2027.

The club in question that would trigger the rumoured release clause are understood to be none other than Real Madrid, with a figure of £150 million recently quoted by a wide array of sources.
While speculation continues to grow about the existence of such a clause in the 21-year-old’s current deal with the Premier League champions, new details have surfaced that have busted this myth once and for all.
As per an exclusive report by the ever-reliable Fabrizio Romano for Caught Offside, while a move to Spain in the future remains a possibility, any previous information about a release clause in Erling Haaland’s contract with Manchester City is ‘not correct’.

It has further been revealed that Pep Guardiola’s side have signed Haaland with the underlying belief that he is the ‘present and the future’ of Manchester City’s attack.
As a result, it has also been mentioned there have not been any contacts with other clubs over a future switch involving the lethal marksman, who is set to head for pre-season to the United States with the Citizens next month.
Romano went on to clarify that while there was more than one meeting held between Haaland's camp and Real Madrid in the past few months, things ultimately boiled down to the Leeds-born forward choosing a move to the Etihad Stadium over the opportunity to join champions of Europe.

It is key to remember that while a player of Haaland's calibre could explore other destinations in the future, the last thing Manchester City would want to do is fail to secure the long-term future of their marquee signing.
Erling Haaland could make his Premier League debut for Manchester City against West Ham at the London Stadium on the opening day of the season.
With Julian Alvarez set to join Manchester City for the new campaign, Haaland could strike a deadly partnership up top with the Argentina international, as uncertainty looms over the futures of Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus at the Etihad Stadium.
