Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo has now personally revealed the reason behind the snub of a transfer to Manchester City back in the summer of 2021.
It was widely reported towards the end of the 2021 summer transfer window that Premier League champions Manchester City were closing in on a deal for the legendary Portuguese forward.
As per a report from the Manchester Evening News at the time, officials at the Etihad Stadium were 'closing in on a deal' for Cristiano Ronaldo as late as 27 August.

It was further reported that City were engaging in talks over a price for Ronaldo with his then-current club Juventus, and could sign him for as little as £25 million.
However, later on the same afternoon, reports began to emerge concerning interest from Manchester United to intercept a deal from Pep Guardiola's side.
Ultimately, it was Old Trafford officials who won the race for the player.

Although, new comments from the 37 year-old during a fresh interview this week have revealed that it may have been one name in particular that intercepted a move to the Etihad Stadium.
Speaking during a bombshell conversation with Piers Morgan on his show, 'Uncensored', the Portugal international offered a personal take on the situation surrounding his return to Manchester United.
Cristiano Ronaldo said, “I followed my heart.”

"He (Sir Alex Ferguson) said to me, ‘It’s impossible for you to come to Manchester City’, and I said, ‘OK, Boss.’”
Despite a blistering first season back at Old Trafford, that saw Cristiano Ronaldo record 24 goals and three assists across all competitions, the former Real Madrid and Juventus star has seen his output significantly decline.
Despite making 16 appearances so far this season under Erik ten Hag, Ronaldo has only provided three goals and two assists, while falling out of favour under the Dutch coach.

Manchester City will certainly be seeing the funny side of the entire situation.
Ultimately, Etihad officials were handed somewhat of a free-run at Borussia Dortmund's Erling Haaland in the Premier League after opting to not go full steam ahead for either Cristiano Ronaldo or Harry Kane.
That decision is proving to be a hugely successful one, with the Norway international striker having revolutionised Pep Guardiola's attacking line this season.
As for Cristiano Ronaldo, he will be linking up with the likes of Ruben Dias, Joao Cancelo, and Bernardo Silva from the Etihad Stadium this month, as Portugal seek World Cup glory in Qatar.
