Cole Palmer was delighted as he made the most of his opportunity to impress by netting against Barcelona at Spotify Camp Nou last week.
Pep Guardiola made several changes to his lineup for City's charity friendly against the Catalan giants, with many eager to see if young Palmer could make an impression.
The Wythenshawe-born attacker, who is under contract at the Etihad Stadium until 2026, started in midfield alongside Kalvin Phillips and Bernardo Silva, with Phil Foden, Julian Alvarez and Riyad Mahrez lining up in attack for the Premier League champions.

Despite operating slightly deeper than usual, the 20-year-old did not look out of place and showcased his versatility as his eye for a pass and quick feet were there for all to witness in the middle of the park.
However, Palmer’s biggest contribution came in the 70th minute when he made a clever run into the six-yard box to level proceedings by tapping home from close range.
Having already shown glimpses of his ability in attack last season before injuries halted his rapid progress in the first-team, Palmer again proved that he belongs at the highest level as he opened his account for the season on his first start.

“Yeah, it was so good - the stadium, the history, the team, to play tonight was amazing," the Manchester City academy graduate said after netting City's second against Barcelona.
"I had to go out there and prove myself and I enjoyed it. When I play, I have to score and have to assist, so I’m glad I’ve done that.
"Hopefully I’ll get some game time as the season goes on. I have to stay focused and keep working hard."

Palmer is highly rated by Pep Guardiola and his coaching staff and is set to provide cover for Riyad Mahrez on the right wing this season after Gabriel Jesus and Raheem Sterling joined Arsenal and Chelsea respectively.
The young forward added: "It’s a great cause and was a great match. I’m glad everyone took part in it.”
It is testament to the faith Guardiola and co have in Palmer given the club opted against recruiting a replacement for key attacking outlets such as Sterling and Jesus.

After a frustrating few spells on the sidelines, Palmer will be keen on staying fit and getting further first-team minutes in the locker over the course of the campaign.
