The 2024 Olympic Games officially kick off with an opening ceremony in Paris on Friday evening, with Team Ireland sending a record-breaking 133 athletes to compete across 73 different categories.
With such a diverse group of talented athletes, Team Ireland will be looking to build on the impressive haul of two gold medals and two bronze medals at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
Impressive performances from a host of Irish athletes at the recent European Athletics Championships in Rome provides hope of at least one medal in the athletics category, which is not typically Ireland’s strongest suit.
Meanwhile, a stunning performance from Fintan McCarthy and Paul O’Donovan at the 2023 World Rowing Championships in Belgrade provides strong hope that the pair can repeat their gold medal-winning heroics from the Tokyo Games.
There are sure to be plenty of new faces competing for medals from Team Ireland in 2024, however, and with that in mind, here is a comprehensive look at each Irish athlete competing in Paris and when to look out for them.
For those unfamiliar with new additions to the Olympic Games, the 2024 Olympics will see the introduction of a “Repechage Round” across a number of events. The round provides a second chance to athletes who failed to qualify from their heats and applies to a number of different sports, including athletics, rowing, and kayaking.
