Norwegian long-distance runner Jakob Ingebrigtsen made history at the latest World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold meeting when he smashed two indoor records in the same race.
The 24-year-old, who won gold in the 5,000m race at the 2024 Paris Olympics, is the current world record holder in the short track 1500m, short track mile, 2000m and 3000m.
And on Thursday evening, he became the first athlete since John Landy in 1954 to set world records for the mile and 1500m in the same race as he recorded a time of 3:45.14 in Lievin, France.

Ingebrigtsen's achievement comes just five days after his rival Yared Nuguse set a world indoor mile record of 3:46.63 at the Millrose Games in New York.
“It feels amazing,” he said after his first-ever indoor mile race. “This is what happens in Lievin. I’m a very happy man. You have to be focused for the whole race. It’s tough, but it’s worth it.”
As well as breaking the mile record at the Arena Stade Couvert, Ingebrigtsen recorded the world indoor 1,500 metres record with a time of 3:29.63.

Nuguse, who set the world indoor mile record last week before it was broken by the Norwegian, took to Instagram to congratulate his rival. "You win some you lose some, was a lit 5 days," he wrote. "Congrats.”
Here's how fans on social media reacted to Ingebrigtsen's latest run.
One said: "Inspirational, what an athlete," while another commented: "He's HIM. The real star of Track and Field. He's a showman, he breaks records and brags about it. Not afraid to get into it with his competition. The sport needs more of him."
A third wrote: "This is so fast, oh my gosh."

A fourth said: "Impressive run for sure but do it when you have people who have the ability to race you. Throw Yared, Kerr, Kessler, and Hocker in there and he folds like a blanket," and a fifth added: "Insane running."
Last year, Ingebrigtsen opened up on his ambition to smash ten world records.
"So far I’m three down and seven to go," he told The Times. "There is work to be done and I’ll do whatever it takes to be the fastest man on the planet. Others can care about all the other stuff. I generally like the idea of more competitions.”
