Harrowing final post of teen athlete who died in brother's arms after being stabbed at track meet

The high school track athlete died in his brother's arms after being fatally stabbed at a championship meet.

The harrowing final post of a Texas teenage athlete who was fatally stabbed at a track and field championship event has emerged.

Austin Metcalf, a junior athlete at Frisco ISD's Memorial High School in Texas, attended the meet at 6900 block of Stadium Lane at Kuykendall Stadium on April 2 but it proved to be the last thing he did.

According to police, they were called to attend after an "an altercation between two students" resulted in "one stabbing the other". 17-year-old Karmelo Anthony has been charged with murder and is in custody.

A statement from Frisco Police said: "On Wednesday, April 2, 2025, at approximately 10:00am, Frisco Police and Fire responded to an incident at a track meet in the 6900 block of Stadium Lane.

"An altercation between two students resulted in one stabbing the other.

"Despite lifesaving measures by police and fire personnel, including CPR and the administration of blood, the 17-year-old victim died.

"The suspect, identified as 17-year-old Karmelo Anthony of Frisco, is in custody and there is no further threat to the public. He has been charged with murder, a 1st degree Felony. No bond has been set at this time."

Austin's father, Jeff Metcalf, told NBC Dallas-Fort Worth that his son got into the argument with another student over a seat before he was allegedly stabbed in the chest.

His twin brother Hunter was present and called the attack "really senseless" an interview with WFAA.

Austin is said to have "died in his brother's arms" despite the best efforts of emergency services who appeared.

The teenager, a member of the track and field team and a linebacker in football, sent his final social media post at 11:46am on March 31, two days before his fatal death, where he wrote: "Faith that god got me and my work will pay off".

In light of his death, the post has racked up 2.6 million views and a flurry of tributes and messages of condolences have been posted in the replies.
