Italian side Napoli have reportedly inquired over the availability of Arsenal centre back William Saliba. The French defender is returning to the Gunners after a successful loan spell at Marseille this season.
In an interview with French outfit Téléfoot, he said: “I belong to Arsenal, I still have two years left. I will be back with Arsenal… I have played zero matches and I still want to show them that I can play for these fans and this great club.”
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta also expressed his desire for Saliba to stay to French outfit RMC: “He has to come back… he has the experience to be competitive with us. We sent him to Marseille for his growth.”

Despite all the speculation that Saliba wanted to remain in France after his disappointing start to life in North London, going on three different loans and not making a single competitive appearance, he will hope to build on a strong year.
When Saliba was sent on loan to Marseille there was anger amongst Arsenal fans about allowing the £27 million signing to leave again, but this decision has been vindicated by his development back in France.
Remarkably the youngster won Ligue 1 young player of the season as well as make his debut for the French National side based on the strength of his performances. The Saliba saga has dragged on so long, it is almost easy to forget how young he is.
Alongside this he also recorded impressive statistics like the most passes by a Ligue 1 centre back ever.

It is no wonder that he is attracting interest from around Europe, despite his intention to stay at Arsenal.
According to Italian journalist Gianluigi Longari Italian side Napoli have inquired over the availability of William Saliba this season.
Whilst it is unlikely that Saliba will be leaving Arsenal, particularly after such an honest interview, the Arsenal hierarchy will have to do some thinking about his future.

With only two years left on his contract, a sizable enough bid could tempt the gunners to cash in on the player who will likely be a third choice centre back for this season. If his contract is allowed to run down, Saliba could eventually leave for a cut price, or even walk away on a free.
Given the clear talent that William Saliba possesses, his future should be a priority for Arsenal. It seems very unlikely that Arsenal will be willing to sell Saliba this summer, but it will be interesting to see if the rumour mill continues around the Frenchman.
