According to reports coming out of the Netherlands, Arsenal could be set to miss out on a big money target to Premier League rivals.
It has been reported for some time that Arsenal are heavily interested in signing Ajax defender Lisandro Martinez, however it appears the Argentine would prefer a move elsewhere.
Speaking to De Telegraaf, Dutch journalist Marcel van der Kraan said that Martinez is hoping for a move to Manchester United instead of the North London club.

“Martinez will also have his hopes pinned on United, who are an absolute top club for him.
Ajax will really cash out for Martinez and go to £38.7m-£43m (€45m-€50m), but that is the advantage if two clubs bid, then it suddenly goes higher.”
If a move for Martinez to Manchester United was to materialise, then this would signal a big blow to Mikel Arteta, and his transfer plans, ahead of the upcoming season.

Arteta is hoping to sure up his Arsenal defence ahead of next season and signing the versatile, defensive minded player would certainly help with this.
Martinez would be able to help the Gunners out in a variety of positions.
The 24-year-old could feature alongside Benjamin White, William Saliba or Gabriel, who is also wanted by Juventus, in a centre back pairing and would add much-needed depth to this position.

As well being a ball-playing centre half, Martinez would be able to compete with Kieran TIerney for his left back berth in the Arsenal first choice XI and he could also step into midfield when required.
Arteta has made it clear with the signings of Fabio Vieira and, the soon to be announced, Gabriel Jesus that versatility is key to play for his Arsenal side and Martinez would seamlessly fit into the squad.
Arsenal fans will desperately be hoping that their side can act quickly on this transfer and secure the services of Martinez following Jesus’ arrival.
