Arsenal have expressed interest in Brighton winger Leandro Trossard, according to Belgian outlet Voetbal Belgie.
The 27-year-old isn’t the first Belgian the Gunners have been linked to this summer, with Leicester midfielder Youri Tielemans being a widely reported target for Mikel Arteta.
Brighton’s tricky attacker was in excellent form for the Seagulls last season, scoring 8 goals in the league along with three assists. When considering those stats in a Graham Potter side that notoriously underperforms its xG (expected goals), the Red Devils star will be content with his output on the south coast.

Trossard’s versatility is a bonus for any potential suitors, with the Belgian international capable of playing anywhere across the forward line, in addition to fulfilling a midfield berth when required. Last season, the Brighton man played centre-forward on 11 occasions, left midfield 7 times, attacking midfield 6 times, and left winger 6 times. Sprinkled on top of that were outings as a right winger and as a second striker.
Arteta is known to value versatility amongst his players, evidenced through the outfield
signings in 2021 all being capable of performing multiple roles. In having players perform at high-levels in multiple positions, the team is afforded a tactical flexibility not just on a game to game basis, but throughout a game itself.
An often spoken next step in the Gunners’ project is not just raising the ceiling with high-profile signings, but raising the floor with squad players with high levels of technical security. If a deal for the 27-year-old were to come to fruition, that floor would certainly be raised, providing tough competition for the young guns Arteta currently has equipped in his arsenal.
