USMNT boss says Thomas Tuchel sacking 'positive' for Christian Pulisic's Chelsea chances

USMNT boss says Thomas Tuchel sacking 'positive' for Christian Pulisic's Chelsea chances

Christian Pulisic will have a chance to prove himself again under new manager Graham Potter.

USMNT boss Gregg Berhalter believes that Chelsea's decision to sack manager Thomas Tuchel could have a 'positive' impact for Christian Pulisic.

On Wednesday morning, the Blues announced the news that they would be parting company with German boss Tuchel after 19 months.

In less than two years at the club, Tuchel won the Champions League, the Super Cup and the Club World Cup. He also got the west London side to two FA Cup finals and a Carabao Cup final as well.

It was confirmed on Thursday afternoon that his replacement was Brighton manager Graham Potter in a move that will shake things up at Stamford Bridge.

The appointment of a new head coach is likely to give players a another chance to impress and hand them new opportunities.

This means some of the fringe players in the side may start to get more game time again while Potter figures out his best starting XI.

The arrival of the 47-year-old will give a fresh slate to those at Stamford Bridge, after several players were reported to have fallen out with his predecessor.

Some felt they were 'treated unfairly' and that there was 'tense' atmosphere at Cobham as Tuchel's popularity was lost. One of the players who may feel he could step up and perform under Potter is Pulisic.

The 22-year-old fell out of favour under Tuchel's management, despite previously having a strong relationship with him at Borussia Dortmund.

In the summer, the American was subject to interest from both Manchester United and Newcastle but he remained a Chelsea player.

So far this season he has seen his game time come from appearances off the bench, but things may differ with Potter coming in.

USMNT boss Gregg Berhalter believes that Chelsea's decision to fire Tuchel could benefit Pulisic and allow him to showcase his true abilities.

He told the Associated Press: "I'm not happy a guy lost his job. But if this means more opportunity for Christian, then it's positive because he's a guy that's proven he can perform at that level.

"We'll just have to wait and see.:

With the World Cup getting underway in November, Pulisic will be hoping to get as many minutes in the tank as possible. He is a crucial asset to the national team and will play a big role in how far they progress in the tournament.

Should Potter choose to put him in a role that sees him play off the striker, he could perform very well as he has been utilised in the USMNT in that position before.
