The Times have reported that Todd Boehly discussed a move with senior officials at Manchester City on Monday morning.
During the discussion, Boehly asked how much Man City wanted for the forward.
The Blues are now expected to return with a formal bid on Tuesday.

Furthermore, there is hope that negotiations can be conducted in an ‘amicable and swift manner’ as Chelsea look to make their first signing of the transfer window.
Chelsea are hopeful of completing a deal by the end of the week, with first-team players returning for pre-season on Saturday.
The report finalises by stating that a bid in the region of £55 million to land Sterling in the summer.
He is yet to agree personal terms despite discussing with Tuchel ahead of the new season.

Manchester City expert Sam Lee previously stated that Sterling’s transfer to Chelsea was ‘done’.
He revealed: "I was speaking to somebody last week who reckons Jesus and Sterling are both done. We're all very cautious of that word done in the transfer industry because it could mean anything, but it certainly seems to be where that one is heading."
Tuchel previously admitted his frustrations with his attackers last season, admitting that he could look to make changes this summer and looks like he could get his wish with Sterling arriving.

“If we stick to the group then we will try to solve it with these players. Is it necessary to bring more offensive players around the box to create more distractions, to create more space for each other? We will ask that question," he said.
"Can we do better in the structure? Can we push the players more? Did we rotate too much? Let’s see.
“There are a lot of options. The numbers we produce from our offensive players don’t allow us to over-perform and we need over-performance if we want to be nearer to the top two teams.”
