Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly had made a sporting director decision amid recent talks with Luis Campos over the vacant role, according to reports.
The Blues have experienced a summer of change over the last few weeks and months, and the restructuring of the club is set to continue.
Boehly, who recently took over the club alongside Clearlake Capital, heavily invested in the side during the transfer window.

The likes of Raheem Sterling, Wesley Fofana and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang were all signed to help strengthen Chelsea.
A managerial change was also made as Thomas Tuchel parted company with the club just a day after their 1-0 Champions League loss to Dinamo Zagreb.
Former Brighton boss Graham Potter has now been brought in as manager as the west London side continue to rebuild both on and off the pitch.

Chelsea are set to continue to make changes in the coming months and even though they have had a mixed start to the season, they still have their eyes on success.

According to The Times, Campos has been identified as a potential recruit for the sporting director role at Stamford Bridge.
He would be brought in to work alongside Potter, and Boehly has already spoken to him.

Such an appointment is also thought to have been part of discussions with Chelsea’s new manager on Wednesday.

Campos is currently at French giants Paris Saint-Germain and has also previously worked with former Blues boss Jose Mourinho at Real Madrid.
Michael Edwards was a previous candidate for the job, but he is thought to have turned down the role to take some time out of football.
Potter was announced as the new Chelsea manager on Thursday afternoon and was set to have his first game on Saturday afternoon against Fulham, but the match was postponed.

Chelsea are still set to face FC Salzburg this week in their second Champions League tie of the season as they compete in Group E of the competition.
It will give them a chance to improve on the result in Zagreb, which proved to be their third loss of the campaign.

Wednesday night’s game against Salzburg will not only be Potter’s first for his new side, but also his debut appearance in the Champions League.
