Thomas Tuchel has revealed what he told his Chelsea players after their controversial match against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
The Blues played well as Kalidou Koulibaly netted an impressive volley on his home debut before Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg scored a controversial equaliser, with Kai Havertz appealing for a foul in the build-up, while Richarlison was standing in an offside position as the Dane netted.
Chelsea thought they had won the game as Raheem Sterling found Reece James, who converted to send Stamford Bridge into party mode.
However, a late Harry Kane header saw the spoils shared despite Marc Cucurella’s hair being pulled just moments before, with VAR refusing to intervene.
Tuchel and Antonio Conte were also involved in a heated exchange following the final whistle, resulting in both managers being sent off and missing their next clashes after the 2-2 draw.
With the German understandably upset, he has now revealed what he told his team after the match as he believed that Chelsea should have come away with the three points.
Speaking to Chelsea’s 5th Stand app after the match, Tuchel expressed further frustration and revealed what he said to his team.
Tuchel said: "Well today, I had to make clear that both goals are irregular goals. It’s simply like this.
"The guy pulls Cucu’s hair, should be sent off, nothing else, it’s a free-kick for us.
"How can there be another corner for them? How is that possible? How?
"They need to know it. We will later be calm, we can check how we can defend better.
"But it’s 96 minutes, it’s the last chance, things can happen. But it would be hard to digest if it happened anyway. For that, it's a clear red card, they check it and don’t give it.
"Then the players need to know. Even in the first goal, it’s clear that it’s a foul on Kai, and an offside, but nobody cared."
Tuchel then continued to heap praise on his team, believing that the performance was worthy of the three points as he concluded: “I loved how we played.
“The intensity, the structure, the discipline, the commitment. Then the fighting, spirit, attitude in every single challenge, this was pure hunger and quality."
Chelsea travel to Leeds as they prepare for their next match of the Premier League season, with Tuchel unavailable to coach from the sidelines.
The German will most likely be back for the Blues’ next match at Stamford Bridge, facing Leicester City the following week.
