Mason Mount is ready to open contract extension talks with Chelsea after holding a positive meeting with co-owner Todd Boehly at the end of last season.
The 23-year-old has risen through the ranks at Chelsea and is now one of the club’s most important players, recognised by both former boss Frank Lampard and now Thomas Tuchel.
Mount registered 13 goals and 16 assists last term for the Blues and is looking to improve on his numbers for next season.

But one thing that does need resolving is his long-term future. He is out of contract in 2024, but is currently one of the lowest paid members of the squad for his role.
Mount deserves a higher salary, which has been recognised by the new owners as they put new deals on the table as a priority.
Boehly and co have been hands on since the takeover was completed at the end of May and after holding a meeting with the whole squad in May, Mount is ready to commit his long-term future to the west London outfit.

Speaking to reporters while in Los Angeles, Mount said: “After the last game of the season we had a little get-together at the hotel and he (Todd Boehly) was there with the rest of the consortium, it was good to meet them in person and speak to them all.
“It’s so exciting what the future holds. It’s an unknown but the way it’s started is really exciting to see what’s going to happen.
“We’re a team that over the last ten years has been up there and pushing and that is where we want to stay. Speaking to them about their goals and aims, we’re on the same page.

“So hopefully that continues. I’ve got two years left on my contract and I’m very, very happy here. Those talks will hopefully be starting soon.”
Mount is joined by Reece James, who is also in line to earn a bumper new contract. The England international also expressed his desire to stay at the club.
He added: "I’d like to think so, yeah (be at Chelsea long-term).

“I grew up as a Chelsea fan and I’ve made my name playing for Chelsea, the club I’ve always supported.
“But I don’t see why anything would change. I play for Chelsea now and I’m enjoying it."
Mount and James are set to be joined by England teammate Raheem Sterling this summer as the Blues commit to a rebuild of the squad.
He has flown to Los Angeles to meet the squad ahead of his official announcement of completing his transfer from Manchester City.

But a new contract for Mount will be like a new signing for Chelsea. It's now a matter of when, not if.
