Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount has discussed the possibility of becoming captain of his boyhood club in the future.
The 23-year-old has come through the ranks at Cobham, with loans at Vitesse Arnhem and Derby County on the way to becoming a key player in Thomas Tuchel’s side.
Former Blues head coach Frank Lampard handed Mount his debut at Derby before giving him the chance at Chelsea.

Since, Tuchel took over and took a shine to Mount, previously stating that the midfielder has a ‘blue heart’, potentially hinting at a future as captain of the club.
Speaking to Chelsea’s official website earlier this year, Tuchel said: “It is always a pleasure to work with Mason because he is the kind of guy who comes with a smile on his face to every single training session.
“It is always 100 per cent in matches, he accepts every challenge and that is why it is so nice to work with him.

“He is full of quality and he has a blue heart. Mason loves the club, he loves Chelsea. That is how he plays and that is why he has our full support.”
With Cesar Azpilicueta, the current Chelsea captain, looking likely to depart the club for the summer amid interest from Barcelona, the Blues may have to choose a new skipper.
Jorginho is the current vice captain at the club, while Thiago Silva has also worn the armband in the past.
However, the Blues could opt for a more long-term option, with the previous two mentioned both only having a year left on their contracts.
Therefore, Mount could become a serious option if Azpilicueta departs this summer, due to his longevity at the club, coming through the youth ranks.

When asked about the potential of captaining the club, Mount told The Telegraph: “I’m naturally not the most vocal.
“I’ve never really been that. When I was captain of the Under-18 FA Youth Cup side, I was always someone who tried to lead by example on the pitch.
“But you have to bring that as well and that’s something I am constantly trying to learn from the likes of Azpi and Jorgi, who have been captains of this club.
“Just trying to learn off them and trying to add that to my game. Even if you are not someone who leads with the ball and leads on the pitch you have to have that other side as well.”

Lampard previously handed Mont the captain armband for his final match, a cup game against Luton Town.
The 23-year-old recalled the game fondly as he took pride in captaining the side.
“I am still young and I am still learning, but whenever the opportunity comes to step up I want to take it,” Mount continued. “Obviously, the gaffer trusted me with captaining the side in the second half and I take that responsibility.

“Whether we win, whether we lose, I always want to be the one to be able to take it. To take it on the chin if we win and, obviously, if we lose as well.”
