John Terry has revealed that Jose Mourinho threatened to sign Raphael Varane after his and Gary Cahill's training mistakes at Chelsea.
The former Chelsea captain returned to the club to take up a role in the academy after leaving Aston Villa's coaching staff, where he retired from playing.
The former defender is one of Chelsea's most decorated players of all time, captaining the club to prestigious trophies including their first ever Champions League title, as well as multiple Premier League's.

Arguably his most successful spell at the club came under Mourinho, with the pair teaming up twice throughout their career.

Speaking to Chelsea's YouTube channel, Terry has now revealed how Mourinho kept his defenders performing at the top level.
During his second spell at the club, the former Blues skipper revealed that Mourinho threatened him and fellow central defender Gary Cahill.
The pair were not performing well in training, and Mourinho decided that the way to get them back to their best was to fire a warning.

Having just returned from Real Madrid, Mourinho told the pair that he would replace them if they did not improve, hinting at a move for Varane, who was often linked with the club.
Terry explained: "In the first training session (in Mourinho's second spell atthe club), me and Gaz kept giving the ball away.
"He said that if we kept going on he'd go and buy Varane and two other big defenders!"

The warning and joke clearly paid off as both Cahill and Terry put in sensational performances under Mourinho as he led the club to another Premier League title.
Since then, Mourinho has managed both Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League and now resides in Rome as manager of Roma.
Terry continues to work at the Chelsea academy and could one day look to make the step up and be a head coach himself.
Varane ended up joining Man United himself.
