Chelsea offered Timo Werner to RB Leipzig on loan as part of a swap deal for Josko Gvardiol, according to reports.
Werner is facing an uncertain future at Stamford Bridge this summer, with the German international struggling for game time and form at the club.
He signed from Leipzig two years ago and has now been linked with a return to the Bundesliga outfit, for whom he scored 95 goals before his move to west London.

In a recent interview, he revealed: "I could be happy everywhere. It is hard to say (why I've struggled for game time).
"I didn’t ask but I think of course the manager always has different ideas, different thoughts and what you need in different games, I think in many games I was not in his thoughts so I try to change that.
"It is clear I want to play more and I should play more to first be in good shape for the World Cup and also, to have a chance to play at the World Cup.”
While Chelsea may now be starting to focus on outgoings this summer they are still heavily interested in welcoming more incomings, and they have now been linked with Gvardiol once again.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Blues made an offer to Leipzig for the 20-year-old centre-back, with Werner on loan being proposed as part of a potential deal.
However, the German outfit are said to maintain the belief that the defender is not for sale, but ‘more possibilities will be discussed’.
Leicester City’s Wesley Fofana is also being named as a ‘top target’ for Chelsea but like Leipzig, the Foxes want to keep their man.
He is valued at around £70 million but if Brendan Rodgers’ side receive an acceptable offer for him then they will not stand in the way of a departure, especially when he wants to play for France at the World Cup later this year.

Benjamin Pavard of Bayern Munich was recently named as another target for Chelsea, but recent reports have revealed that he wants to stay at the Bundesliga Champions.
After their pre-season friendly win against Udinese on Friday night, Thomas Tuchel revealed the club’s plans for the next week as they prepare to face Everton in their first match of the new Premier League season.
He said: “We play another match here against Udinese, another team, to have minutes in our legs. Then it’s two days break.

“Then we prepare nothing else but Everton because they are right in front of the door and we need to improve, we are not ready yet.
"We don’t have to be ready yet, we have another week and then it’s the time to be on the best level and there’s still some way to go.
“It was a pretty long pre-season, tiring and exhausting to be in the US for so long and having another travel today in the circumstances.
“Not so easy, pretty demanding, always nice when the season arrives, you feel the tension and pressure which we all enjoy. We will have this next week.”
