The reason that Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly attended a meeting with Cristiano Ronaldo’s agent, Jorge Mendes, has been revealed.
It was reported that the American travelled to Portugal, where he discussed the possibility of Ronaldo joining Chelsea among other things this summer.
However, despite being offered to Boehly, a deal is seen as unlikely this summer.

The striker has previously committed his future to Manchester United ahead of the new season, admitting he is looking forward to working under Erik Ten Hag.
“I was and still am very happy to be here,” he said.
“I know (Ten Hag) did a fantastic job for Ajax and that he’s an experienced coach but we need to give him time and things need to change the way he wants.

“I hope we have success. I wish him the best. We are happy and excited. Let’s believe that next year we are going to win trophies. I believe that Manchester (United) will be where they belong. Sometimes it takes time but I still believe.”
It has now been revealed by CaughtOffside, that a meeting with Mendes was requested by the super agent himself.
Furthermore, Boehly granted the meeting out of courtesy, with Chelsea holding no real interest in Ronaldo this summer.
Chelsea are looking to add to their attacking options as Romelu Lukaku is set for a departure.

Inter Milan have made an offer to take him on loan this summer, with it looking ever more likely that a return to the San Siro is on the cards.
Mendes is still keen to engineer a move for Ronaldo this summer, having also offered him to Bayern Munich.
It is thought that the Portugal star is keen to play Champions League football, something that Thomas Tuchel’s men could offer.

The Chelsea boss previously hailed Ronaldo for his legacy in football.
He said: “He is a true champion and has proved at any level, in any year, he can perform at outstanding levels.
“And don't forget, he will have an impact every day with the group, it's not just goals and assists.
“You ask me about it, which is fair enough. I think he will have a huge impact because he is a champion, a true champion.

"Cristiano leads by example and makes things more complicated for us! Very exciting.”
Chelsea will turn their attention to other options in attack, with Raheem Sterling, Ousmane Dembele and Richarlison the most heavily linked names during the summer transfer window so far.
