Chelsea are set to hold talks with Reece James over a new deal at the club in the coming weeks, according to reports.
Since he broke into the first team squad during the 2019/20 season under former boss and club legend Frank Lampard, James has emerged as one of the Blues’ most important players.
His performances have been key to the club’s recent success, including a superb defensive performance in the Champions League final against Manchester City last year.

Last season the 22-year-old was affected by a couple of injuries, but he was still able to score six goals and provide ten assists across all competitions.
James is now one of the first names on the team sheet for the Blues, and his performances for the club could be rewarded very soon.
According to The i, Chelsea are set to hold talks with the right wing-back in the next few weeks in order to discuss a new deal.

Such negotiations are expected to begin soon, and a new contract would see him stay at the club until ‘his late 20s’, therefore securing his long-term future in west London.
James’ current deal doesn’t expire until 2025 and he is on £80,000 a week at Stamford Bridge, with new co-owner Todd Boehly keen to secure his services for the foreseeable future, with the likes of Real Madrid and City said to be monitoring his situation.
The player himself is also thought to be keen on discussing a new deal, with his team preparing to hold talks with the club.
He could be joined by Mason Mount in a duo of players given new contracts at Chelsea, with the 23-year-old being a fellow successful graduate of the club’s Cobham academy.

James has now made 123 appearances for his boyhood club and at just 22-years-old, there are surely many more to come.
Such performances from the defender have also earned him his first appearances in the England national team in recent years, making a total of 13 appearances so far for the Three Lions.
One of his fellow countrymen is now preparing to link up with James on a more regular basis, with Chelsea set to complete the signing of Raheem Sterling in the coming days.

The 27-year-old will make the switch from Premier League rivals City after seven years at the club, and will arrive as the Blues’ new highest earner after the loan departure of Romelu Lukaku.
