A late Casemiro header earned Manchester United a share of the spoils at Stamford Bridge, with Graham Potter’s Blues securing a second successive draw in the Premier League on Saturday evening.
The first half started slowly, before Man Utd slowly started to show their dominance, creating a cluster of half chances that Kepa Arrizabalaga had to stay sharp to save.
As the half wore on, Graham Potter established he had to tweak his tactics as Chelsea were being completely overrun, especially in midfield, leading to Mateo Kovacic’s premature introduction at the expense of Marc Cucurella.

Kovacic’s introduction did manage to spark some life into Chelsea’s performance, allowing the blues to press higher up the pitch, which helped create a few half chances for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang that he was not sharp enough to convert.
Man Utd will feel they should have been leading at the break with Antony spurning the best of their many chances of the half, flashing an effort narrowly wide of Kepa’s post from a position he should have been more clinical.
The second half started slowly again with little to write home about until Trevoh Chalobah rocked the Man Utd bar from a header.

The game sprang into life after that, with Armando Broja winning Chelsea a penalty late on, after being brought down by Scott McTominay at a corner. After much protest from United’s players Jorginho coolly slotted away his spot kick to seemingly win the game for the Blues.
However there was an even later twist in the tale, with Casemiro’s looping header in added time squirming just out of Kepa’s reach and off the post to creep over the line with the aid of goal line technology. Casemiro’s header was so late in the match there was little time for anything else, thus earning his side a point and breaking Chelsea hearts in the process.
Here is how Absolute Chelsea rated the players' performance on Saturday evening.
Kepa Arrizabalaga - 7/10
Advert
Kepa continued his fine form in the first period, making a series of solid saves from United’s attackers as Cheslea struggled to get a foothold in the game. Reacting quickly to close off Marcus Rashford after he had got in behind the defence was a clear sign of his growing confidence. Would have hoped to keep the goal out, however was unlucky it creeped over the line.
Trevoh Chalobah - 7/10
Chalobah put in a strong performance, keeping Marcus Rashford quiet with an aggressive approach to his man. Had a strong header come off the bar during the second half, which reflected his growing influence in this Chelsea side.
Advert
Thiago Silva - 6/10
A quiet game by Thiago Silva’s imperious standards. Silva managed to limit Man Utd’s attack in the box, however he will be disappointed to lose the clean sheet right at the death.
Marc Cucurella - 5/10 (36)
A victim of Chelsea’s poor start to the game, Marc Cucurella generally played well at left centre back and kept the in-form Antony quiet whilst he was on the pitch. However he was sacrificed before the break as Graham Potter looked to rectify Chelsea’s struggling midfield by bringing on Mateo Kovacic.
Cesar Azpilicueta - 6/10
Advert
A solid performance from the Chelsea captain, filling in at right wing back. Azpilicueta did not offer much in an attacking sense, spurning the one meaningful chance he did get to cross, however he was tenacious and didn’t get caught out for pace against some speedy wingers.
Ruben Loftus-Cheek - 6/10 (79)
Largely overrun in the first half, losing the midfield battle heavily before Kovacic’s introduction. Loftus-Cheek offered a little bit more attacking impetus than Jorginho but this was not one of his most influential performances.
Jorginho - 7/10
Lost the midfield battle along with Loftus-Cheek before Kovacic came on. Was solid with the ball at his feet without probing Man Utd too much. Had one key moment in the game, where he remained composed from the spot in a very high pressure situation to put Chelsea ahead.
Ben Chilwell - 7/10
Chilwell showed good energy down the left hand side, and was not fazed by the substitution of his centre back Cucurella. Managed to keep Antony quiet and offered a good outlet on the left hand side without creating too many key moments, just like most of his team mates.
Mason Mount - 6/10
Mason Mount put in a solid performance and looked lively at points, putting in some dangerous crosses. Struggled to create any meaningful openings in the match which was a quiet one by his recent standards.
Raheem Sterling - 5/10 (79)
Raheem Sterling struggled to get into the game, however whenever he did manage to get around the Man Utd box, he was wasteful. A string of quiet performances for Sterling in blue now, he will hope to turn that around soon.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang - 5/10 (74)
Aubameyang struggled to have an influence on the game, although admittedly he did not receive lots of service. However, whenever Aubameyang did get around the United box he lacked the cutting edge that was required to break the deadlock in a tight game.
Bench
Mateo Kovacic - 7/10 (36)
Kovacic added some much needed bite to Chelsea’s midfield after his early introduction. Generally fulfilled his remit at helping Chelsea regain some control in the game and played some positive passes without ever really threatening Man Utd in an attacking sense.
Christian Pulisic - 6/10 (74)
Pulisic was solid on the ball after his introduction, and helped add some fresh attacking impetus without creating any meaningful attacking moments.
Armando Broja - 7/10 (79)
Won the penalty for his side, and generally showed the usual energy and guile he brings from the bench.
Carney Chukwuemeka - 5/10 (79)
Added energy along with Broja off the bench, however struggled to make any meaningful impact as the game heated up towards the end.
