Chelsea boss Graham Potter has revealed the job at Stamford Bridge was ‘too big to turn down’ as he prepares for his first game in charge.

The 47-year-old made the switch from Brighton to the Blues last Thursday following the departure of Thomas Tuchel.

After their 1-0 loss to Dinamo Zagreb, Chelsea decided to part ways with the German head coach, who had spent 19 months at the club.

Potter has now arrived in west London after his impressive efforts with Brighton, who currently sit fourth in the Premier League table.

Chelsea, on the other hand, are sixth and have won just three of their opening seven games of the season across all competitions.

Their new head coach is now set to compete in his first match on the touchline for the Blues.

They will face FC Salzburg at Stamford Bridge in their second Champions League match of the season, contesting against AC Milan and Zagreb in Group E of the competition.

In his first press conference as the new Chelsea boss, Potter spoke on the discussions he had with his wife and the owners before taking the job after just over three seasons at the Seagulls.

“No idea about football” - Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly slammed for decision to sack Thomas Tuchel

"My wife has been with me on the journey, it was important to have that conversation,” he said.

"Then my staff. We quickly had to make a decision, intense. I got a nice feeling for the owners on a human level.

"Intelligent people, understanding of what they want to achieve, had a plan. We were happy, secure, at a good football club. You have to acknowledge that.

"The challenge was too big to turn down. This club is an amazing club and challenge."

Wednesday night’s game will be Potter’s first ever appearance in the Champions League.

He has previously been in the Europa League when he was boss at Ostersund, but he is now set to make his touchline debut in the aforementioned prestigious competition.

Potter also spoke on his side’s aims for the season: "The connection between the supporters and the team is the main thing.

"I would love their support. Everything I've heard so far, I have that. I can promise that I will do my very, very best everyday.

Man City, Man Utd, Liverpool & Premier League warned of Chelsea’s scary attack despite mixed start to season

"I want to see balance in attack/defence. Humble team. We want to entertain, but we want to win.

"We want to create our own team, our own identity. We will fight everyday for it."
