UFC fans call for fight to be cancelled after deeply concerning footage emerges

UFC fans have voiced their concerns after watching the footage.

UFC fans have called for a fight to be cancelled after deeply concerning footage emerged.

This weekend, UFC 301 is set to take place at the Farmasi Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The main event will be contested by Alexandre Pantoja and Steve Erceg.

Pantoja, who is the defending champion, is hoping to regain his title in front of his home crowd against Erceg, who has a record of 12-1.

However, fans of the sport have been left concerned after seeing footage of William Gomis, who is set to fight Jean Silva in a featherweight bout on the preliminary card.

Gomis weighed in at three pounds under the featherweight limit but was seen wobbling and stumbling as he stepped onto the scales.

Journalist Guilherme Cruz wrote on social media: “William Gomis did not look good on the scale but still made weight (143 pounds with clothes on) for a featherweight bout.

“Apparently he threw up moments before weighing in. Commission doctors were following him closely. Jean Silva, his opponent, made weight at 146 pounds.”

Reacting on social media, one fan said: “He must not be allowed to fight.”

Another tweeted: “3lbs under is criminal get him rehydrated asap.”

A third fan added: “These guys need to stop these drastic cuts man go up a weight don’t risk your life for that kind of cut it’s dangerous while your just weighing in can’t imagine the damage he could do to himself if he’s not 100% for this fight.”

Someone else wrote: “Give that man another fight down the road. He didn't call in sick. He showed up to fight.”

A fifth commented: “They gotta change the rules on this. Never good for a fighter’s health.”

Another fan said: “Bro this should not be allowed, stop this non sense. Forbid cutting.”

Heading into his fight with Silva, Gomis holds a record of 13-2.
