It could be argued that the thrilling 4-3 contest between France and Argentina was tne passing of the baton between Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe.
Many would disagree, of course.
But today it is still worthwhile to appreciate the talent of this French youngster.

Indeed, it's a shame that Messi bowed out of the World Cup the way he did. It's likely his peak ability will be out the window by the time the next tournament rolls around.
Now taking the centre-stage is Paris Saint Germain star Mbappe, whose brace has granted France a spot in the quarterfinals.
But it wasn't just the goals that Mbappe provided against the South American's today that caught everyone's eye, it was his blistering pace in the game.

In fact, the teenager has topped Cristiano Ronaldo's record of being the fastest player at the tournament so far.
To put that into perspective, Usain Bolt, the world's fastest man is 44.72 km/h. Jeez.

His run during today's game, when he was brought down in the box, was clocked at 39 km/h by Swedish TV.
Just see the amazing sprint for yourselves:

The Mbappe hype is real:
No one could really place who will win this year's competition. Croatia look decent, but they're ,well, Croatia; Brazil should win it but even they look leaky at the back; Spain, too, don't look one hundred percent. So what of France? After that performance, it seems that they could well win the whole thing.

Could this be Mbappe's grand entrance to the world stage? Aside from the multi-million pound move, of course.
