Man Utd suffer another transfer blow as club president rules out selling star player this summer

Man Utd suffer another transfer blow as club president rules out selling star player this summer

This is not good news for Erik ten Hag.

Manchester United transfer target Victor Osimhen is "not for sale" this summer, according to Napoli's club president.

Osimhen has been on fire in Serie A, topping the goalscoring charts with 16 goals in 17 appearances.

The Nigerian's form has brought him the attention of Erik ten Hag who is in the market for a permanent replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo this summer, having signed Wout Weghorst on loan this January.

Tottenham talisman Harry Kane has also been linked with a move to Old Trafford. However, the Red Devils boss is thought to prefer a more mobile forward, such as Osimhen.

Napoli president reveals club's transfer stance

Now, the Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has provided an update on the club's transfer stance.

De Laurentiis told SportBild: "I can tell you that Osimhen is not for sale."

"Our players are in demand, but I don't have to sell anyone. We don't have any debts.”

The Telegraph report that De Laurentiis is a 'notoriously tough negotiator', and with Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea also sniffing around Osimhen, the 24-year-old's price tag is likely to exceed £100m given the Italian club paid Lille a projected €80m (£71m) for the player in 2020.

Kane to Man Utd?

Should Osimhen become unavailable, Ten Hag may switch his attention to Kane.

The England skipper reached a new milestone on the weekend, scoring his 200th Premier League goal to become Spurs' all-time leading goalscorer in their 1-0 win over Manchester City. He is now just 60 short of Alan Shearer's record.

Kane previously pushed for a transfer to Manchester City in 2021, but Daniel Levy blocked any potential move away, keeping his prized asset at the club.

In addition to Tottenham's reluctancy to sell, United are reportedly wary of entering into negotiations, having had 'bad memories of dealing with north London club from when they signed Dimitar Berbatov', claim The Times.

Daniel Levy has also made it clear that he would only sell to an overseas buyer, with Bayern Munich and Real Madrid thought to be interested. However, such a move would affect Kane's pursuit of Shearer’s record.
