Haiti Goalkeeper Josue Duverger Scores One Of The Worst Own Goals Ever

Young goalkeeper Josue Duverger was making just his second appearance for the national team when he made a mistake he'll want to forget.

Haiti went out of the World Cup qualifiers against Canada on Tuesday night, thanks in part to goalkeeper Josue Duverger's incredible own goal.

Haiti topped their group in the North American qualifying for the 2022 World Cup, beating Nicaragua, Belize and Turks and Caicos Islands, to advance to the second phase.

They were drawn with Canada in the two-legged play-off to reach the final group qualifying stage and lost the first leg 1-0 last Saturday.

That left them some chance of advancing to the final stage heading into Tuesday's game, especially after a goalless first half, but just a minute after the break disaster struck.

Centre back Kevin Lafrance calmly passed the ball back towards Duverger, the goalie attempted to kick it clear but missed, with the ball rolling towards the goal he had another chance to boot it out but only sliced it into the back of the net.

Duverger, who is just 21-years-old, was making his first start for the national team and had made a string of good saves in the first half, with Canada unsurprisingly dominating the match.

Incredibly, the Vitoria F.C. shot stopper was actually born in Montreal and was called up to the Canada under 17s back in 2016!

However the keeper's howler was the catalyst the hosts needed to go on to win the game with relative ease.

Cyle Larin made it 2-0 on the night in the 74th minute before Cardiff City winger Junior Hoilett wrapped things up with a minute of normal time to go.

The 4-0 aggregate win means Canada will now face USA, Mexico, Costa Rica, Jamaica, Honduras, Panama and El Salvador in the third phase of qualifying.

The top three in the group will qualify for Qatar in around 18 months' time, with fourth place facing a play-off against a team from another continent.
