Chaos as Wolves and West Brom fans fight in Black Country derby FA Cup tie

Chaos as Wolves and West Brom fans fight in Black Country derby FA Cup tie

West Brom and Wolves fans fought in the stands at the Hawthorns, with the FA Cup game shown live on ITV.

There were shocking scenes in the Black Country derby between West Brom and Wolves as fans fought in the stands at the Hawthorns.

The two Midlands sides, now a division apart, met in the FA Cup fourth round on Sunday afternoon.

Wolves found themselves 2-0 up courtesy of goals from Pedro Neto and Mateus Cunha.

But tempers flared after the second goal as a section of Wolves fans appeared to be in the home end.

It all kicked off, with supporters on the side of the pitch as police darted down to try and intervene.

Players were seen taking their kids away, fearing for their safety.

Commentator Sam Matterface said he had not seen scenes like this in English for a long time and did his best to fill time as ITV, who were showing the game live, refused to cover the unsavoury scenes.

The game had to come to a halt as police tried to disperse the trouble. ITV then went back to the studio and took a break, with the game still suspended.

At the stadium, on the big screen, a message to fans read: "Please return to your seats. Entering the field of play is a criminal offence."

After a substantial delay, a decision was made to finish the remaining minutes plus stoppage time.

Police moved in large numbers behind the goal and in the corner, while both sets of players waited anxiously in the tunnel and emerged back onto the pitch.

They were then put through their paces for a vigorous warm-up to regain that sharpness.

Managers Carlos Corberan and Gary O'Neil were seen in conversation with the match officials.

However, there was still a slight delay as paramedics were continuing to deal with injuries suffered by those in the crowd.

The game resumed from the 77th minute when Wolves doubled their lead after it was deemed safe to do so.
