Sir Alex Ferguson's response when asked if Spurs will ever win Premier League, it's clear what he thinks

Sir Alex Ferguson's response when asked if Spurs will ever win Premier League, it's clear what he thinks

Tottenham last won the title back in 1961 and are unlikely to challenge the likes of Man City, Liverpool and Arsenal this season

In the current day and age, it will take something quite special to wrestle the Premier League title away from Manchester City under Pep Guardiola.

After finishing third in his opening campaign in charge of City, Guardiola has presided over one of the most dominant spells of league titles for any club in English football.

In the past full seven seasons, City have won the top flight title on six occasions, the only other time being when they were runners-up to Liverpool in the 2019-20 campaign.

Indeed, Jurgen Klopp's side have generally been the most consistent side to give City a hard time in that period, with challenges by the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United ultimately not reaching the same standards.

Ultimately though Liverpool sit top of the Premier League at present, City have a game in hand and with a near fully-fit squad at Guardiola's disposal now thanks to the return of both Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne to action, it would not be a surprise to see the Etihad Stadium club retain their crown.

In the early stages of this season, Tottenham Hotspur were in electric form under new boss Ange Postecoglou.

Spurs currently sit fourth in the table and are very much in the conversation for being in the Champions League next season.

But will Spurs ever manage to go the extra mile and win the Premier League title?

That is a question which legendary former United boss Sir Alex Ferguson - who lifted the trophy 13 times during his time at Old Trafford - has now answered.

And, sorry to say, Spurs fans, but he hasn't painted a particularly optimistic picture of the North London's club's chances winning the title any time soon - or ever, for that matter.

Asked by Sky Sports if he believes Spurs will ever win the Premier League, Sir Alex said: "No!

"I mean, 61 was the last time that they won it - well that's a long time.

"But the opposition today with Liverpool and Man City being so powerful in the Premier League, even for United."

The interviewer then put it to Sir Alex that Spurs are more likely to win the Premier League than United, but the Scot was having none of it.

He simply replied: "No chance."

To be fair, Sir Alex might have a bit of a point, as though United's last league triumph came when he retired in 2013, you do have to go way back to 1961 when Spurs were under Bill Nicholson for their most recent top flight title.
