Matheus Cunha has reportedly already chosen his shirt number at Manchester United next season with the Wolves star set to become Ruben Amorim's first summer signing.

The Brazilian has been Wolves' shining light in a difficult season, having produced 17 goals and six assists for Vitor Periera's side.

Despite the transfer window not opening until June, Cunha has looked destined for Old Trafford for some time with David Ornstein revealing United are ready to pay the forward's £62.5 million release clause.

Ruben Amorim has made no secret of his admiration for Cunha, and heaped praise onto the 25-year-old prior to their clash with Wolves last month.

"He's playing a 3-4-3, he's doing quite well! He's changing some players, he has real quality players - Cunha and all these guys, they have real quality. They are fresh."

According to Ben Jacobs, United are set to finally activate Cunha's release clause this week after agreeing a five-year contract with the Red Devils.

Cunha to take Rashford's 10 shirt

The report also stated that Cunha is set to take the number 10 shirt at Old Trafford which is currently occupied by Marcus Rashford if 'all goes to plan.'

Rashford has worn the number 10 shirt at Old Trafford since the summer of 2018 following the departure of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who inherited it from club legend Wayne Rooney.

The England international was ruled out of Aston Villa's final matches of the season through injury, after being forced out of the club on loan in January due to disciplinary reasons.

Cunha himself has had his fair share of disciplinary issues this season and has been sidelined through suspension for six matches, which resulted in a difficult relationship with Wolves supporters.

However, after being voted Wolves player of the season the Brazilian was quick to acknowledge the supporters in what seems like a farewell message.

"Thank you for this award, player of the season," he wrote.

"I have no words to say how happy I was this season with all of you. Thank you to my teammates for being a family in the difficult times and in the wonderful moments we spent together.

"This season will have a different place in my heart. Thank you to God for everything," he added.
