Amad Diallo risks Erik ten Hag's wrath after liking and then removing controversial Man Utd post

Amad Diallo risks Erik ten Hag's wrath after liking and then removing controversial Man Utd post

Diallo was an unused substitute against Newport County.

Amad Diallo has risked the wrath of Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag after 'liking' and quickly 'unliking' a post about the club.

The winger was an unused substitute in Sunday's 4-2 win over Newport County in the FA Cup fourth round.

Ten Hag overlooked Diallo and opted to bring on teenager Omari Forson for Antony during the second half.

Diallo has made just one appearance for United this term after recovering from a knee injury in pre-season.

He came off the bench in December's 2-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest, managing to impress despite his lack of match fitness.

The 21-year-old joined United from Serie A outfit Atalanta in 2020 but has failed to nail down a spot in the first team.

Diallo spent last season on loan at Sunderland in the Championship.

The Stadium of Light faithful adopted him as one of their own, winning the PFA Fans' Player of the Year award and Sunderland's Young Player of the Year award after scoring 14 goals in 42 games.

Following United's victory, Diallo's account on X liked a post of him wearing a Sunderland shirt captioned: "Here, Amad Diallo - if they're not going to start you in the FA Cup away at Newport County, it really really isn't worth you giving them your time.

"Come home, come somewhere you are truly appreciated."

Diallo's account has since unliked the post. Sunderland are seventh in the Championship, level on points with Coventry City in the final play-off spot.

Black Cats boss Michael Beale has admitted he'd like to bring Diallo back to Wearside in an attempt to seal promotion.

"We’ve made it really clear to them that we would be in there but Man United really value him as well," Beale explained per ChronicleLive.

"He could have an interesting second half of the season in-house but if he was to go out on loan, I can assure you, they are well aware we would want him to come back here.

"Putting finances aside – because that’s the big thing isn't it – I know he loved his time here, the fans loved him and he was well-loved in the changing room.

"When I came here, it was something that if it could happen, it would happen but I think Man Utd realise they have a very good football player on their hands."
