Fans all say the same thing after laser pointed at Union SG goalkeeper during Liverpool match

There was naturally one thought on the minds of fans.

A laser was shone at Union SG goalkeeper Anthony Moris during his side's Europa League clash against Liverpool on Thursday - and fans are all saying the same thing.

The Luxembourg international started between the sticks for one of the Belgian club's biggest games in recent years.

But it didn't go exactly as hoped, with the Reds pulling off a 2-0 victory at Anfield after goals from Ryan Gravenberch and Diogo Jota.

But the Belgian side were defensively solid throughout, with Jota only sealing the result in second half injury time.

However, there was a more than unsavoury incident during the game when a laser was shone on the Union SG goalkeeper by a spectator.

The 33-year-old shot-stopper was seen gesturing to the referee about the laser, pointing at it with his gloves.

The incident will likely result in Liverpool receiving a fine, if the person shining the laser is identified, as the FA did when a laser was shone at Kasper Schmeichel during the Euro 2020 semi-final between England and Denmark.

Naturally, given the week's VAR-related events after Tottenham vs Liverpool, fans all said the same thing in response after seeing the images.

Taking to X (Twitter), one fan wrote: "If it [the laser] leads to a mistake, the game must be replayed."

Another took it one step further: "There should be a replay. Behind closed doors."

A third joked: "This is unprecedented and, I'm sorry, the only fair outcome is a replay."

A fourth added: "We need a replay immediately."

Another took a slightly different approach, using the words from the PGMOL audio that was released this week: "Well done boys, good process."

The replies, of course, are relating to comments that Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp made earlier this week surrounding the VAR controversy that has engulfed the Premier League and PGMOL, the refereeing body.

After Luis Diaz's goal was ruled out for offside against Tottenham, the incorrect decision was not overturned by VAR official Darren England - who believed the on-field decision was onside - in what PGMOL described as a 'lapse of concentration and loss of focus'.

Klopp commented that the outcome 'should be a replay' between the two sides as a result of the error - but later expanded on his thoughts after the win over Union SG.

He explained (quotes via Metro): "If I made the impression yesterday that I was still in the game against Tottenham, I was not at all. That was long ago.

"We are over that and that's fine. We are not children or whatever - we just had a few questions to answer and did that."
